Utarchus is full of himself. He is a warrior and finds combat to be bastion of everything that makes a man…well, a man. He has a poor attitude regarding women and is rude and loud and opinionated. He is also brash, impatient, reactionary and gung-ho making him not very popular in combat and that doesn’t even take his bad back into the equation. Needless to say Utarchus has few friends and usually buys his feminine company for the night.
That is not, however, all that Utarchus is. Those few who have dealt with his lack of social skills, of positive personal habits and of battlefield tactics and remain with him come to learn that Utarchus is a solid friend. He is steadfastly loyal, blindly fearless and has never ever left anyone behind on the battlefield, alive or dead. He values anyone who speaks clearly and bluntly because he knows(and never says to anyone) that he needs outside help in controlling himself and reading what is really going on around him. When he comes to acknowledge a person as a friend he trusts them 100% and it is not an exaggeration to say that should a friend ask him to fall on his spear for them he would immediately. Utarchus also puts 100% of himself into everything he does and pushes the edge and his limits harder than most. His back being hurt is a personal shame because he feels it dishonors him and keeps himself from giving his all.
Though his friends are few and far between one can recognize them by the way they speak to him; direct, clear and without condescension. Utarchus always tries to have one of those people who understands him and in whom he trusts implicitly around if he can help it and luckily the archer Botis travels with him now.
